The Backchannel – a video book review

I’ve been procrastinating long enough.  I’ve been deliberating about whether to start using video on this blog and decided to go ahead and give it a shot.  I’m starting off with a review of Cliff Atkinson’s latest book, “The Backchannel:  How Audiences Are Using Twitter and Social Media And Changing Presentations Forever,” so please let me know what you think.

Here are the links I mentioned in the video:

Also, please leave a comment and let me know what you think of this format for book reviews and blog entries.

(By the way – thanks to Matt Hixson for the nudge in finally doing this)

Great first video post! I am impressed that you created an intro and ending on your first one. What was the camera you used and the software used to create the intro?

I like the idea of posting video but I think it should supplement your writing. Example: you give a video tour of the time audit software you discussed in your post about time audits. Keep the essay but supplement.

Thanks for the feedback, David - I like that idea. I had lunch with the author of Techhead.co.uk yesterday and he is sending me a link to some good software for doing the walk-through kind of thing you mentioned. Will be interesting to see how that comes out.

Matt, I used a JVC Everio camcorder (small, uses flash memory) and a mini tripod. It was a hotel room so the light wasn't the greatest, but it came out OK. I used Microsoft Movie Maker to make the video, and found some public domain music on the internet. It was pretty easy - I might get fancier over time!
